Yesterday was one of those days that I just felt exhausted, overwhelmed, and I had this overwhelming feeling that I was going to need some extra strength to get me through.

We just got done having visitors in town, I could tell our girls were feeling a little overstimulated and exhausted, I was trying to catch up on writing and school work, not to mention the whole “being pregnant with twins” thing I have going on right now. Utter exhaustion doesn’t even begin to summarize the day.

I would love to be able to say that everyday of my life I am constantly turning to God and the Bible for strength, peace, and advice… unfortunately, I can’t. Sometimes we just get busy, other times we just try to do everything on our own rather than turn to the one constant that can always point us in the right direction.

verses for strength

With that being said, even if I haven’t taken the time to sit and reflect on His Word in a few days, or just stopped to say “thank you” for all of the craziness in my life, I know that I can always go back to it and it will always be there.

Verses for Strength and Peace

There are more verses than I could ever name that help bring peace, comfort and strength. These are the few that will forever stick with me and that I can put on replay over and over again in my head for days like yesterday.

Isaiah 41:10  fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

This is great for those times when you feel lonely, even if you are surrounded by children and loved ones. I think as parents especially, sometimes we can feel completely on our own even though we are watching our children or even though we have the most supportive partner in the world. It is the perfect reminder that He is delicately holding us up with care and comfort.

John 16:33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

On a day like I was having, this verse brings so much peace to my heart. Knowing that no matter life throws at you; whether it be fussy kids, a pile of laundry, or a huge work load, we can have peace in knowing that those struggles will not be forever and can be easily overcome.
Psalm 23:1-3 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
I have a version of this passage tattooed on my back. Throughout all of my 25 years, this has been a passage that constantly reminds me of the path I should be on and where the Lord is leading me. If I have those time periods where life gets busy and I don’t take the time in prayer or reflection like I should, this solidifies that I can always come back to the right path of peace and restoration.
Phil. 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
This is such a simple, but powerful, reminder of the fact that we can have a completely messy, exhausted, and anxiety-filled day. However, at the end of all of that, we can give everything up to Him in prayer and know that those feelings of anxiety and unrest will be lifted.
