Welcome to my 23rd week of pregnancy update! As this post goes up, I will be in my 24th week of pregnancy and headed into the “point of viability” which is so exciting! I know they will be in there cooking for quite some time, but it’s comforting to know that they could thrive outside of the belly in case something did happen.
At this point, I am only 3 weeks away from entering my third (and final) trimester, which is so insane!
To give you a little picture, the babies are each about the weight of a large mango. According to our growth scan, Oliver is measuring 1.5 pounds and Annabelle is measuring 1.5 pounds as well, right on track! They are each about 11-12 inches long.
Twin Pregnancy Week 23
Genders and Names: One of each! Oliver and Annabelle:) You can read more about the reasons behind their names and pictures of the big surprise in our Gender Reveal post.
Weight Gain: I am headed into my 24th week now and I am still sitting at 15 pound weight gain total. The doctor says that I am right on track and I can still continue to do yoga like I have been. Yay!
Sleep: It’s tough to sleep because I have been getting such crazy temperature swings at night. Plus, because I have the fibroid on my right side, and you aren’t really supposed to lay on your back too much, I really can only lay on my left which is difficult since I am normally a back sleeper.
Food Cravings: I haven’t really had too many cravings. I have always loved spicy things and have been wanting those more lately. My sweet cravings are starting to reappear like they did in my other two pregnancies, but not as bad.
Food Aversions: Pretty much the same as well. Meat still isn’t overly appealing to me, although I do get sudden cravings for fast food burgers… so weird since I don’t eat read meat normally and tend to stay away from fast food in general. Craving them, but still can’t really bring myself to eat them.
Symptoms: With my spicy food cravings, heartburn has also started to rear its ugly and painful head. I never suffer from heartburn, except during the later stages of pregnancy. They say it’s a sign that one of the babies might have hair, but that doesn’t ring true for me so far. Still haven’t had any new stretch marks appear. (Read my method on helping to prevent stretch marks here)! I do have that annoying dull ache under my rib cage, come to find out from the ultrasound that Oliver’s behind is pushing up right there which explains it all!
Clothing: Since it is approaching the 80-90 degree weather here in Arizona, I have a new-found love for these two pairs of maternity shorts that I picked up as well as a love for dresses. They are just so easy to wear and throw on, and the shorts are not only comfortable, but cute! (You can read my Spring Maternity Outfit Ideas here. Summer Maternity Post coming in April)
Exciting Moments: Having another ultrasound this past week was really exciting! We got some good news that Annabelle’s little spot on her heart was barely visible now, and she is growing right on track everywhere else. So, there is a great chance that she will be a perfectly healthy little girl:) She is also head down and low, which is great for my natural birth plan. Oliver is transverse, or laying sideways, across my upper belly right under my ribcage. But he was doing flips and spins the entire time we were having the ultrasound done, so who knows where he will end up at. I am just happy to know they are both growing and healthy.
Belly update: Feeling more like I am mostly belly now, which is better than feeling round everywhere like I have been! Some day’s I feel a lot bigger and then others it seems like the babies are disappearing into… I have no idea where!
Thoughts from the past week:
- We have SO MUCH TO DO to get ready for these two babies… and so many things to buy. We are also getting ready to move in a few weeks, which is insanity!
- I wonder how rapidly my weight gain will increase in a few weeks once I hit my third trimester. I only gained 33 lbs and 25 lbs with my first two pregnancies, so it will be interesting to see how these two will grow.
- I have being praying constantly that everything would appear normal on the ultrasound, especially when it came to Annabelle’s heart, and I am so thankful that the Lord is looking over our sweet babies.
