Recently, I have been really into skin care. I have found a few favorite skin care items that I love (find those by clicking the link). I have also had to be really careful about what I am using due to pregnancy.

One of my girl friends recommended this facial mask to me and I’ll admit, I am always skeptical about any type of mask that makes large claims or that is widely publicized on social media such as Instagram. I get a “fad” feeling and that creates more doubts than excitement to try it.

But, because a friend told me I had to try it because she loves it so much, I decided to give it a go! I wanted to share my thoughts on this product because I always find it helpful to know real, honest views on a product that could potentially be amazing, or that could just be overly hyped up.

Detoxifying Facial Mask from TruSelf Organics

One of the first things I look at before purchasing any skin care item are the ingredients and what it contains, or doesn’t contain. I have sensitive skin and I cannot use just anything on my face especially or I will end up with crazy breakouts or large areas of skin irritation.

This product wins that area as it has none of the following (that are terrible for your skin):

– No Parabens
– No Petroleum
– No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
– No Phthalates
– No Artificial Dyes or Synthetic Fragrances

It is also made up of a combination of six different types of clays, all that have very specific skin benefits. This clay mask claims to clear out pores instantly, clear blemishes, help with uneven skin tone, aid in any fine lines/wrinkles, and helps to create a “glowing, even skin complexion”. I’ll get into my final verdict on those claims at the end.

It is a powder mask that you mix up yourself. I like this because you can use as much or as little as you want. I am sure that you could just mix a small amount and do spot treatments if you wanted, but I like to go all out when I am using masks like this. You just add water to get your desired consistency and then apply all over your face, making sure not to get too close to the eyes.

It is the type that you only use once a week, any more than that would be overkill on your skin in my opinion. You begin with only leaving it on for 10 minutes, and then you can continue to add more time in later uses, leaving it on for up to 30 minutes.

On first use, I was a little worried about when was happening. As it dries, you can feel the mask tightening and pulling at your pores. It makes you skin feel extremely tight when it hardens, which is why I think there is a recommendation to only leave it on for a short amount of time on first-second use.

I have been using this mask for a little over a month now and have used it a total of 5 times. I leave it on for a maximum of 20 minutes, and only did it for that long on my most recent use. The other four uses where I left it on for 10 minutes seemed to be enough and work well.

Right away, I could see that it cleared my pores. You can not only feel it doing so, but you can visibly tell if you have areas of enlarged/obvious pores and blackheads. Mine is around my nose and there was a noticeable difference after just the second use. It can draw all of those things to the skin after the first use, and while I did have two small blemishes due to this, they disappeared quickly.

I have not had any reactions to this product aside from its drying effect on my skin. I have pretty dry skin to begin with, and this mask will make skin very dry. I find that if I use it at night and then go to bed with a good moisturizer (read about my favorite here), I don’t have any issues with dryness in the morning.

It does leave my skin feeling extremely clean and healthy looking. I haven’t really noticed any help with fine lines since I don’t have too many of those yet, but it does have obvious tightening/toning benefits to the skin. I would say that it lives up to its claims!

So, is it worth the $19.50 and all of the hype? Absolutely. It’s a great mask that could be beneficial for many different skin types, for both men and women, and it will also last quite a while. Check out TruSelf Organics for yourself!
