Today’s Blogmas topic is local holiday activities. Since we live in Arizona, I will be sharing all of the fun events that happen around here, Christmas decorated cactus and hot chocolate in the desert and all! There are actually quite a few holiday attractions in Arizona, and these are some family favorites that we know and love to attend every holiday season.

Holiday Attractions in Arizona

The North Pole Experience

This is an event in Flagstaff, AZ that we went to last year and absolutely loved! The entire thing is set up to make up to make you feel like you are headed to the North Pole and off to see Santa’s place:) You can read about our full visit to The North Pole here.

The kids got to go into the toy shop and help “make toys”. They went into a room where all of the kids got a bear to dress and then they got a Nerf gun to mess around with. They then got to help send toys up into the present room where they got packed for the sleigh. The next room was to see Mrs. Claus in the bakery where they got to eat cookies and have “snowman soup” (hot chocolate). You get to meet Santa and take family pictures with him at the end, privately, which I think is great! This is a must see and somewhere that we will be back to. IMG_8078

The Polar Express

This is something that we haven’t had the chance to get to yet, but really want to take the kids to next year. It is near the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and it takes place aboard the Grand Canyon Railway. They have the entire thing closed down, and only running specifically as The Polar Express. If you have seen the movie, I would imagine that this exactly what this train ride is themed after.

The APS Electric Light Parade

This is a free event where families can come to watch all of the different floats and vehicles that are all lit up and Christmasy. This parade is done specifically at night for the Christmas light factor, and it is something really amazing to watch. Kids love it! The APS parade was on December 3 this year, but with this being its 30th year, I know they will be back next year!

Train With Christmas Decorations

Zoo lights at the Phoenix Zoo

Every year the Phoenix Zoo puts up an awesome holiday display of lights. They cover all of the zoo with different lights and such, but because this event is at night you won’t really see too many animals. This event is about holiday lights, music and lighted animal sculptures. See Pictures of ZooLights at the Phoenix Zoo.

Christmas at the Fairmont Princess

This event at one of the resorts in Phoenix features a special tree lighting of the four-story high musical tree, music, refreshments, ice skating and other activites. The event features the lighting of the resort’s four-story musical Christmas tree in Princess Plaza, along with more than two million Lagoon Lights, the Princess Express Train, the Desert Ice Skating Rink, the Christmas Carousel, Musical Tree & Animated Holiday Light Show, Nativity Garden Light Show, Lagoon Lights, Princess Express Train and several new features.
